The EPC Lab combines experiment and simulation to understand aqueous interfaces of environmental relevance.

Current research interests include:                                             
  • Bio-adhesion and nano-bio interfaces
  • Membrane fouling and fouling mitigation
  • Transport in membrane materials

September 2018: Santiago presented a talk during the 19th Biennial Seminar on Water Resources and Environmental Management, organized by the School of Engineering at the University of Edinburgh.

August 2018: Henry and Adel's paper entitled "Graphene Oxide Surface Modification of Polyamide Reverse Osmosis Membranes for Improved N-Nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) Removal" is accepted for publication in Separation and Purification Technology. Paper available here.

May 2018: Santiago presented an invited seminar entitled "Unraveling Bacterial Adhesion to Aqueous Interfaces" in the Department of Chemical Engineering at University College London.

April 2018: Santiago presented an invited seminar entitled "Computational and Experimental Studies of Aqueous Interfaces" in the Department of Physics at Hamline University.

March 2018: Santiago presented a talk in the Biomaterials & Biointerfaces session at the ACS Spring National Meeting in New Orleans. His talk was entitled "Interaction of bacterial cells with model graphene oxide surfaces: insights from single-cell force spectroscopy".

December 2017:
Our paper entitled "
Bacterial Adhesion to Graphene Oxide (GO)-Functionalized Interfaces is Determined by Hydrophobicity and GO Sheet Spatial Orientation", in collaboration with Ben Stottrup (Augsburg University), is accepted for publication in
